Business Enabling Environment and Infrastructure

In Nigeria, one of the major challenges hindering economic growth and private sector development is the unfavorable business environment. This environment is characterized by numerous barriers, such as cumbersome regulatory frameworks, high operational costs, inadequate infrastructure, and inconsistent enforcement of policies.

These challenges have made it difficult for businesses to thrive, reduce costs, and scale effectively. Additionally, the slow pace of reform implementation by the government continues to deter both local and foreign investments.

Another significant barrier to business growth in Nigeria is the challenge of sustainable infrastructure. Sustainable infrastructure is essential for long-term economic development, as it enables businesses to operate efficiently, reduces operational costs, and supports the broader economy. However, Nigeria faces numerous obstacles in this area, which not only impede business growth but also limit the overall development potential of the country.

The SEDIN Programme plays a role in addressing the challenges to business growth in Nigeria by focusing on improving the business environment and promoting sustainable infrastructure development.

In the area of sustainable infrastructure development, our focus areas include environmental sustainability, gender equality, combating climate change and ensuring access to sustainable infrastructure, all within specific clusters and hubs.

The SEDIN Programme works with the government to simplify and streamline regulatory frameworks. It helps identify bottlenecks in the regulatory process and advocates for reforms that reduce bureaucracy, ensure predictability, and make the regulatory environment more conducive for businesses.

By engaging with policymakers, the programme supports the development of business-friendly policies that encourage both local and foreign investments. This includes advocating for tax incentives, favorable trade policies, and ease of doing business reforms.

The programme offers training and capacity-building initiatives for both government agencies and private-sector stakeholders. This helps in improving the knowledge and understanding of regulatory frameworks, which can lead to more effective policy implementation and compliance.

Public Private Dialogues are structured platforms that act as a tool for fostering collaboration between the public sector and the private sector. SEDIN works with private sector associations and MSMEs to identify issues affecting MSMEs and jointly develop solutions through public private dialogues (PPDs).
